Janet really enjoys painting in oil, drawing and composing original compositions. She likes to play with line work, mark making and color. Since childhood, Janet has loved to draw horses and rode these beautiful creatures whenever possible. Her career in fashion design evolved into her passion for painting. She exercised polo ponies for several years and lovingly cared for two horses of her own. While her focus remains on horses her talents have expanded to include other animals. There is a precious quality in the eyes of these beautiful creatures. Portraying this in her art brings great joy to herself and also the viewer. She especially enjoys her commission paintings and pours her heart, knowledge and talent into everything that she paints.

Buffalo Facing The Storm,IMG_6424 2 copy

As the story goes, when a storm is coming a cow will see it and will run from the storm, therefore having the storm chase it. However a buffalo will face the storm, taking it head on, therefore moving through the storm more quickly. That is what my client told me as he asked me to paint this custom painting. I really enjoyed this process of creation. I had been to Yellowstone Park the previous year and had such a visceral memory of the mighty buffalo. They are so amazing and beautiful to see in person. I am happy to say that my client loves his painting! It truly represents his life and facing the challenges that come his way. A metaphor we can all relate to.

IMG_4306 - Version 2I always enjoy drawing. Its what really led me to work in pastel. In this recently completed drawing I used charcoal and a small amount of pastel over a wash of india ink and watercolor. This horse is expressive and full of power!
‘Unbridled Passion’ is matted in a 23 X 26 inch frame and is available on my ‘originals for sale’ page as an unframed original. The frame is available upon request.

Horse power! This powerful horse is full of energy and 'Unbridled Passion'!

I really enjoy painting dogs. They are so connected to us and are such fabulous friends. JoAnn asked me to paint Skye as a surprise for her son and his wife for Christmas. I was not able to meet or photograph Skye as they live in Texas. JoAnn’s husband took this photo and I knew when I saw it that it had a wonderful element with such a darling pose. I could see his sweet expression and knew that  unexpected color was called for in this painting. I hope they like my artistic interpretation of Skye, their 9 year old Weimaraner dog.

Whenever I am asked to paint a commission portrait of a client’s horse or in this case horses, I am blessed. I enjoy the process of creation and was so happy to meet, photograph and paint Dakine and Devina for Jenny. After taking the photos I shared the very best of them with Jenny and she told me what she wanted to see in her finished painting. Color, expression and composition all came together in this painting called ‘Dakine and Devina’.Thank you Jenny! I am so grateful that you love your painting.
